The project development timeline
is shown below, a continual maintenance program is now established in order to keep the site in good condition.
Progress:
June
2012 - Committee formed, site agreed/donated, top-stone for memorial sourced.
July 2012 - Bank Account opened, initial meetings with
stone masons and joiners/designers of benches.
Aug 2012 - Fund raising continuing, committee meetings with regard to timetable, site
design etc.
Sep 2012 - Fund raising continuing, offshore companies approached for assistance.
Oct 2012 - Site design agreed and a computer
generated drawing produced as shown above in the main photo, planning permission submitted, meetings w.r.t. reaching relatives.
Nov
2012 - Planning permission granted.
Dec 2012 - Further searches for contact of relatives, PR development, Oil and Gas union and chaplaincy
contact, draft memorial entranceway information board designed.
Jan 2013 - Media engagement, fund raising continues, date set for opening
Saturday 25th May 2013.
Feb 2013 - Fund raising, first turf cut at site by Committee Chairman and Sumburgh Airport Manager Nigel Flaws.
Mar
2013 - Hardcore laid for foundations to site, benches and plaques ordered.
April 2013 - Stone masons move in, timing of ceremony agreed
as 11:30 on 25th May 2013.
May 2013 - The site is completed and opened with a large crowd of locals and relatives alike.
Jan 2014
- Committee meets to discuss addition of area to remmember the 2013 accident.
Aug 2014 - New stone plinth and plaque installed in memory
of the 2013 incident.
